Demonstrate Love

I enjoy watching romantic comedy and love movies especially with my husband. Some men call them “Chick Flicks.” I love happy endings and when I watch a movie that ends with no happiness or love doesn’t save the day, I’m a little upset. I feel robbed! Someone once told me, “Girl, love movies are not real,” but I have to disagree.

One of the attributes that I adore about God, well, I adore all of them, but the one that constantly draws me closer to God is His amazing love. God’s love picks me up when I have fallen. When I’m having one terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, His love brightens my day. Daily, He reminds me and shows me that He loves me. I am amazed at the love God has for me. He loves unconditionally. He loves us when we don’t love Him back. He loves us when we don’t want to be love. He loves us when we fail. He loves the coldest, the cruelest, and the most hateful person. He loves the murderer, the homosexual, the drug addict, the prostitute, the drunk, the liar, the thief, the cheater. He loves the sinner. He loves me. He loves you. He loves like no one else can. God’s love is amazing!

God’s love doesn’t reject us, but His love embraces us. His love chases after us. Because God loves us and we love Him, we can love one another. We can show love to someone else. We can show love to the one who feels unloved and unworthy. We can show love to that mean boss who never smiles or that co-worker who always complains. We can show love to the person who has wronged us. God showed us a great example of how to love when He sent His one and only son, Jesus. And He wants us to have love for one another (1 John 4:7-21). Let’s love like Christ by doing the following:

Look past faults. We can look past the person’s faults. Remember, we have faults of our own, but God, who is rich in mercy, still loves us. (Eph. 2:4) Daily, He looked past our faults and sees our needs.

Keep no record. Don’t keep a record or an account of how many times that person has wrong us. Love them anyway (1 Pet. 4:8). Christ doesn’t give us a limited amount of times He’ll forgive us. He doesn’t keep bringing up what we did the last time. His forgiveness has no limits!

Learn to love like God. We can love others by learning how God loves. We can read about His love and gain insight from His Word (Eph. 5:1-2). Get familiar with His love book, the Bible, and eventually, His love will begin to rub off.God demonstrated His love for us and He wants us to demonstrate love to others. Let’s take advantage of all the opportunities that God will make available for us to exhibit love.

During your Quiet Time, read Ephesians Chapter 5: 1-2 and allow God’s word to minister to you!

“Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.” (Eph. 5:1-2 MSG)
